Linear subdivision (Q2638716)

The paper extends the results of an earlier paper of \textit{C. A. Micchelli} and the author [ibid. 114/115, 841-870 (1989; Zbl 0668.65011)] on subdivision algorithms for the generation of curves. Curves are considered that are subdivisible at a finite set of arbitrary breakpoints as opposed to the equidistant breakpoints considered earlier. It is shown that a continuous solution \(\psi\) (t) of the subdivision equations can always be continuously reparametrized: \(\chi (s)=\psi (\phi (s))\), such that \(\chi\) (s) is linearly subdivisible at equidistant points. Smoothness and related properties of the curves are discussed.
