Considered is a model of a myelinated nerve axon with Fitzhugh-Nagumo dynamics at the nodes and passive loading between them. The relative length of the internodal distance is denoted by \(\theta\). A sufficient condition for the existence of a Lyapounov function of the model is derived. Also, a sufficient condition for the linearized stability of a steady solution is proved. Further, the existence of nontrivial steady states is investigated and the above stated results are applied. It is found that if \(\theta\) is sufficiently small, there always exist nontrivial, stable, periodic steady state solutions; otherwise this may not be true.
