The authors tackle a problem which goes back to, at least, \textit{G. A. Miller} [Groups in which either all the operators or all the subgroups of the same order are conjugate, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 19, 332-335 (1933; JFM 59.0149.04)]. The first of the problems mentioned by Miller was finally resolved, using the classification of finite simple groups, by \textit{P. Fitzpatrick} [Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 85, 53-58 (1985; Zbl 0558.20016)]. The authors are concerned with the second of these problems, that is we assume that any two subgroups of the same order are conjugate. As Miller points out the structure of a Sylow subgroup is very limited under this hypothesis, in particular a Sylow 2-subgroup is either cyclic, elementary abelian or a quaternion group of order 8. The authors consider the structure of non-soluble groups and provide detailed theorems in both the case where the Sylow 2-subgroup is abelian and when it is quaternion. The statement of the theorems is quite long so they will not be reproduced here, but they are interesting. They do not mention any analysis of the soluble situation or whether any progress has been made. A related problem which has been considered both in the finite and infinite case is the structure of groups in which any isomorphism between two of its finitely generated subgroups is induced by an automorphism. This has been solved in the finite soluble case by \textit{P. M. Neumann} (unpublished) and \textit{G. L. Cherlin} and \textit{U. Felgner} ``Homogeneous soluble groups'' (to appear).
