Let D be a smoothly bounded domain in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\), and let S and B denote the Szegö and the Bergman projections for D. The authors prove some estimates under certain technical assumptions on D, which make precise the principle that estimates for S are related to estimates for B. In particular, their results imply that if D is the unit ball, and \(N=\sum z_ j \partial /\partial z_ j\), then \[ \| Su-Bu\|_ s<C\| \overline{Nu}\|_{s-1}, \] where \(\| \cdot \|_ m\) is the Sobolev s-norm on D. The precise statements are formulated for the class of domains studied by \textit{D. Barrett} [Duke Math. J. 53, 333-343 (1986; Zbl 0615.32016)]. They involve the analogue on such domains of the holomorphic vectorfield N above, and the index s in the estimates depends on the bound for \(| \arg Nr|\) on \(\partial D\), where r is a normalized defining function for D. The proofs rely heavily on Barrett's techniques.
