This paper gives a homogenization result for quasi-linear elliptic equations of the form \[ -div(a(x/\epsilon,Du_{\epsilon}))+\gamma | u_{\epsilon}|^{p- 2}u_{\epsilon}=H(x/\epsilon,u_{\epsilon},Du_{\epsilon})+h(x) \] on \(\Omega\) with Dirichlet zero boundary conditions on \(\partial \Omega\). The map a(x,\(\xi\)) is periodic in x, monotone and continuous in \(\xi\), and satisfies suitable coerciveness and growth conditions. The function \(H=H(x,s,\xi)\) is assumed to be periodic in x, continuous in (s,\(\xi\)) and to grow at most like \(| \xi |^ p\). In the case without the term H a homogenization result has been obtained by the authors [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 14, No.9, 717-732 (1990; Zbl 0705.35041)]. The corresponding linear case, where a(x,\(\cdot)\) is linear and \(p=2\), has been considered by \textit{A. Bensoussan}, \textit{L. Boccardo} and \textit{F. Murat} [H-convergence for quasilinear elliptic equations with quadratic growth. Manuscript (1989); see also Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 39, 769-805 (1986; Zbl 0602.35030)]. This paper is a generalization of A. Bensoussan et al. to the case a(x,\(\cdot)\) is quasilinear and p is a natural number with respect to a(x,\(\cdot)\). The proofs follow the method introduced in A. Bensoussan et al. for the case where a(x,\(\cdot)\) is linear, but technically they need more tools. One of the main tools for the proofs is a corrector result for the solutions obtained in \textit{G. Dal Maso} and the second author [Correctors for the homogenization of monotone operators, Differential and Integral Equations (to appear)].
