The mesh-independence principle asserts that, when Newton's method is applied to a nonlinear equation between two Banach spaces as well as to some finite-dimensional discretization of that equation, then the behaviour of the discretized process is asymptotically the same as that for the original iteration. \textit{E. L. Allgower}, \textit{K. Böhmer}, \textit{F. A. Potra} and \textit{W. C. Rheinboldt} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 23, 160-169 (1986; Zbl 0591.65043)] proved this result for operators whose Fréchet derivatives are Lipschitz continuous. In this paper the validity of the mesh-independence principle for nonlinear operator equations and their discretizations, where the operators have derivatives which are only Hölder continuous, is proved.
