The authors propose an efficient adaptive grid solution procedure as applied to the problems of convection diffusion. The grid refinement is based on an equidistribution law being used in regions with high error estimates. This procedure requires the solution of two Poisson equations with control functions. The refinement of the coarse grid is performed by the use of the boundary conditions interpolated from the coarse grid results. The final solution is obtained by a multigrid approach that requires successive solutions on the refined equidistributed mesh on the coarse mesh inside the entire domain. The process has to be repeated until convergence. The proposed method is illustrated by three test problems and the results are compared with the known results obtained on a fixed curvilinear grid.
