It is proved that discrete velocity models of the Boltzmann equation in one space dimension are uniquely globally solvable if the initial values \(\phi_ i(x)\) have finite entropy and satisfy \((1+| x|^{\alpha})\phi_ i(x)\in L_ 1^+({\mathbb{R}})\) for some \(\alpha >0\). The key steps in the proof are a local existence and uniqueness theorem in a weighted \(L^ p\)-space and a verification of the H-Theorem in the relevant solution space.
