    Modular parts generalize the even-odd partition of a function f [the author, Appl. Math. Comput. 28, No.2, 89-96 (1988; Zbl 0655.42005)]. The n-th part \(mod p\) of f is given by \[ f_{n\setminus p}(x):=(1/p)\sum^{p-1}_{k=0}f(xe^{2\pi ik/p})e^{-2\pi ikn/p}. \] The sum of all modular parts of f is again f. Moreover: \[ f_{n\setminus p}(xe^{2\pi im/p})=e^{2\pi imn/p}f_{n\setminus p}(x). \] If f is analytic and \(f(x)=\sum^{\infty}_{j=0}a_ jx^ j\), then \(f_{n\setminus p}(x)=\sum^{\infty}_{j=0}a_{jp+n}x^{jp+n}.\) The author derives several other properties and gives a calculation of \((f_{m\setminus p})_{n\setminus q}.\) The hypernumber \(\epsilon\) (with \(\epsilon^ 2=1\), but \(\epsilon\) nonreal) leads to the idea of the so- called counter-modular part \(f_{n\vee p}\) with the property: \[ f_{n\vee p}(x)=f_{n\setminus p}(\frac{1- \epsilon}{2}x)+f(\frac{1+\epsilon}{2}x). \]
