The author introduces a new class of multifunctions, the irresolute multifunctions. A large number of basic characterizations is offered. The irresolute multifunctions (upper and lower) are the natural and correct generalizations to set-valued maps of the irresolute (point-valued) mappings defined by \textit{Crossley} and \textit{Hildebrand}. Some relationships among strongly continuous, continuous and irresolute multifunctions are established.
