To solve numerically linear boundary value problems for two-dimensional equations with constant coefficients in a square the author proposes to use expansions of functions of two variables in series that are combinations of polynomials and trigonometric series of the type \[ F(x,y)=\sum_{k}h_ k(x)\sum_{n}\psi^ k_ n\sin ny+\sum_{m,n}H_{mn}\sin mx \sin ny, \] where \(h_ k(x)\) are polynomials of certain properties. There are justification of the expansions and results on their differentiability term by term. The results are applied to solve boundary value problems in shallow shell and plate theory. Numerical results are given. [For completeness see: the author, ibid. 50, 1036-1040 (1986; Zbl 0635.35010)].
