Real linear characters of theta groups and modular imbeddings for real quadratic fields (Q2640637)

Let \(\Theta_ n\) be the theta subgroup of Siegel's modular group \(\Gamma_ n\). \(\Theta_ 2\) has 3 subgroups of index 2 and \(\Theta_ n\) (n\(\geq 3)\) has only one subgroup of such index [\textit{R. Endres}, Monatsh. Math. 94, 281-297 (1982; Zbl 0497.10021)]. In this paper explicit formulas of the characters associated to these subgroups are given. As an application it is shown that the Hilbert modular groups over certain real quadratic fields can be imbedded into one of these subgroups.
