    It is considered the problem \[ (E)\quad U_{tt}+dU_ t-\sigma (U_ x)_ x+aU=f(x,t,U_ x,\quad U_ t,U),x\in (0,\ell),t\in R^ 1 \] \[ U(0,t)=U(\ell,t)=0,\quad U(x,t+\omega)=U(x,t),x\in [0,\ell]. \] The following assumptions are supposed: (A1) \(d^ 2-4a\geq 0;\) (A2) \(\sigma\) : \(R^ 1\to R^ 1\) is smooth and increasing for which \(\exists \sigma_ 0>0\) such that \(\sigma '(z)\geq \sigma_ 0>0\) for all \(z\in R^ 1\) and \(\sigma ''(z)z>0\) whenever \(z\in R^ 1\), \(z\neq 0;\) (A3) f: [0,\(\ell]\times R^ 4\to R^ 1\) is smooth and has period \(\omega\) in time, i.e. \(f(x,t+\omega,z_ 1,z_ 2,z_ 3)=f(x,t,z_ 1,z_ 2,z_ 3)\); f is bounded, i.e. there is a positive number \(f_ 0\) such that \(| f(x,t,z_ 1,z_ 2,z_ 3)| \leq f_ 0\) for all \(x,t,z_ 1,z_ 2,z_ 3.\) The existence of at least one weak solution of this problem is established. The strategy employed consists in three steps: transforming (E) to a hyperbolic system, studying the corresponding parabolic regularization and proving the convergence of approximate solutions using the compensated compactness theory to carry out a limit process.
