    Two problems for orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are studied. Regarding the symmetrization, the authors show that given a sequence \(\phi_ n\) of monic orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle, there exists exactly one system \(\Phi_ n\) of monic orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle such that \(\Phi_{2n}(z)=\phi_ n(z^ 2).\) This system also has the property that the odd degree polynomials are given by \(\Phi_{2n+1}(z)=z\phi_ n(z^ 2).\) The second problem deals with the decomposition of a sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle into odd and even parts: if \(\phi_{2n}(z)=A_ n(z^ 2)+zB_{n-1}(z^ 2)\) and \(\phi_{2n+1}(z)=C_ n(z^ 2)+zD_ n(z^ 2),\) then all the monic orthogonal polynomials \(\phi_ n\) are obtained for which the even component \(A_ n\) is also a monic sequence of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and it is shown that \(A_ n(z)=D_ n(z)\).
