In 1958 \textit{L. Lunelli} and \textit{M. Sce} [k-arch completi nei piani proiettivi desarguesiani di range 8 e 16, Centro di Calculi Numerici, Politecnico di Mitano (1958)] found, using a computer, an irregular hyperoval in PG(2,16). \textit{M. Hall jun.} [Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 102, 159-176 (1975; Zbl 0313.50013)] showed, also with the aid of a computer, that in PG(2,16) every hyperoval is either regular (i.e. irreducible conic plus nuclus) or is a Lunelli-Sce hyperoval. The main purpose of the paper under review is to give a computer-free proof of Hall's result. Using a criterion for recognizing hyperovals given by \textit{D. Glynn} [Geom. Dedicata 32, 247-252 (1989; Zbl 0684.51009)], the authors achieve their goal.
