Loop algebras provide the modern context for integrable Hamiltonian systems of finite dimensions. The loop algebra typically admits a decomposition into subalgebras one of which can be exponentiated to a group action whose coadjoint orbits in the other subalgebra are symplectic manifolds. Invariant functions on these are candidate Hamiltonians for integrable systems. The present paper addresses the relationship between two equivalent, alternative realizations of this procedure of a ``dual'' nature, in one of which the phase space is described by \(r\times r\) matrices with entries of low degree in the loop variable and the other by \(2\times 2\) matrices with entries of variable degree. As examples the authors discuss the Rosochatius system and the Euler-Manakov rigid body.
