The authors consider the transmission problem for a second order elliptic equation in divergence form and its applications to the static Maxwell system. On the interface of discontinuity jump data are prescribed. Utilizing boundary integral techniques a-priori estimates are first obtain for the elliptic problem. Then the findings are transferred to the electro- and magneto-static cases. The a-priori estimates feature a transparent dependence of the constants in the estimate on the physical data of the underlying media.
