This paper is a continuation of [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 328, No. 1, 24--45 (2007; Zbl 1342.74123)] treating the existence of equilibrium in a tilting--pad thrust bearing with cavitation effects disregarded. In this case the model becomes complex, since the Reynolds equation is replaced by a variational inequality.
