    Using a generalized convolution \(\otimes\) on the half-line generated by the Gegenbauer differential operator \[ D_{\lambda}=(x^2-1)^{{1\over 2}-\lambda}{\text{d}\over \text{dx}}(x^2-1)^{\lambda+{1\over 2}} {\text{d}\over \text{dx}} \] and the Gegenbauer transformation \[ {\widehat f}_P(\alpha)=\int_0^{\infty}\, f(\text{ch } t) P_{\alpha}^{\lambda}(\text{ch } t) \text{sh}^{2\lambda} t\,dt\;(\alpha\in [0,\infty)), \] \[ {\widehat f}_Q(\alpha)=\int_0^{\infty}\, f(\text{ch } t) Q_{\alpha}^{\lambda}(\text{ch } t) \text{sh}^{2\lambda} t\,dt \;(\alpha\in [0,\infty)), \] (here \(Q_{\alpha}^{\lambda}\) is a constant multiple of the second linearly independent solution of the hypergeometric differential equation satisfied by \(P_{\alpha}^{\lambda}\)), the author generalizes the classical Calderon reproducing formula as given below. If \[ \int_0^{\infty}\,{\widehat g}(a\lambda){\widehat h}(a\lambda){da\over a}=1,\;\lambda\in \mathbb R\setminus \{0\}, \] then \[ f=\int_0^{\infty}\,f \ast g_a \ast h_a {da\over a}. \] Here \(\widehat{\;}\) is the classical Fourier-transform and \(f_a(x)=f(x/a)/a\). Using a shift operator that is a constant multiple of the integral \[ \int_0^{\pi}\,f(\text{ch } x\text{ch } t-\text{sh } x\text{sh } t)(\sin\varphi)^{2\lambda -1}\,d\varphi, \] the generalized convolution of an \(L_p\)-function and a finite Borel measure on the half line is then introduced using the new shift operator. The main results are concerned with the approximation of functions on the half line in \(L_p\)-norm and also with point-wise convergence.
