The article addresses the lower bound for the rank of Floer-Novikov cohomology restricted to the class of monotone or negatively monotone symplectic manifolds. The result is applied to obtain a lower bound for the number of fixed points of a symplectomorphism without assuming \(\pm\)-monotonicity of the sympletic manifold. In [Topology 34, No. 1, 155--176 (1995; Zbl 0822.58019)], \textit{Lê Hông Vân} and the author studied an analog of Arnold's conjecture for fixed points of the time-one map of a time-dependent symplectic flow. There they constructed the so-called Floer-Novikov cohomology and established the invariance under Hamiltonian deformations in a way similar to the case of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms [\textit{A. Floer}, Commun. Math. Phys. 120, No. 4, 575--611 (1989; Zbl 0755.58022); \textit{K. Fukaya} and the author, Topology 38, No. 5, 933--1048 (1999; Zbl 0946.53047) and \textit{G. Liu} and \textit{G. Tian}, J. Differ. Geom. 49, No. 1, 1--74 (1998; Zbl 0917.58009)]. According to the authors, one of the difficulties is that the coefficient ring (the Novikov ring) of Floer-Novikov cohomology depends on the flux of the symplectic flow, hence they can not compare Floer-Novikov cohomologies of symplectomorphism with different fluxes, so their idea is to use a smaller coefficient ring. When two time dependent flows are close to each other, they give a variant of Floer-Novikov cohomologies over the same ring in order to compare them. The Floer cohomology of a symplectomorphism sufficiently \(C^{1}\)-close to the identity is calculated in terms of the Novikov cohomology of the flux. Let \(M\) be a closed manifold. The Novikov cohomology \(HN^{*}(M,a)\) defined for \(a\in H^{1}(M;\mathbb R)\) is a finitely generated module over the Novikov ring \(\Lambda_{a}\). The function \(a\to \text{rank}_{\Lambda_{a}} HN^{*}(M;a)\) attains the absolute minimum at a generic \(a\). Denoting the \(p\)th minimal Novikov number of \(\text{rank}_{\Lambda_{a}}HN^{p}(M;a)\) by \(\min^{p}_{N}(M)\) (the minimum of \(\text{rank}_{\Lambda_{a}} HN^{p}(M;a)\)), their main results is the following: Let \(\phi\) be the time-one map of a symplectic flow on \((M,w)\). If all fixed points of \(\phi\) are non-degenerate, the number of fixed points of \(\phi\) is not less than \[ \sum_{p}\text{min}^{p}_{N}(M). \]
