The author discusses properties of operators \(T\) satisfying that for a non-negative integer \(k\), \(\widetilde{T}^{(k)}\) is hyponormal, where \(\widetilde{T}^{(k)}\) means the \(k\)-th Aluthge transform of \(T\). The author calls such operators the operator backward Aluthge iterates of hyponormal operators. He characterizes the backward Aluthge iterates of hyponormal operators of weighted shifts. Moreover, the single valued extension property (SVEP), scalar extension and the hypercyclicity of backward Aluthge iterates of hyponormal operators are discussed.
