Periodic solution to the time-inhomogeneous multi-server Poisson queue (Q2643829)

A queueing system with time-varying periodic (Poisson) arrival and (exponential) service rates and time-varying periodic number of servers is considered. The Chapman-Kolmogorov forward differential equations for time-dependent queue-size processes are derived. A periodic solution is obtained which is based on a straight-forward application of generating functions and includes modified Bessel functions. An expression for factorial moments of the queue-size is also derived. The first moment is given in an explicit form. A few specific examples with numerical results are also presented.
