The book presents recent developments in the field of correlated data analysis. Its aim is to give a systematic account of regression models and their application to the modelling and analysis of correlated data. Longitudinal data have been used for the development and illustration of the methodologies. In addition to marginal models and mixed-effects models, the book covers topics on joint regression analysis, on Gaussian copulas and generalised state space models for longitudinal data from long time series. Various real-world data examples, numerical illustrations and software usage tips are presented throughout the book, making it suitable for graduate courses on correlated data analysis. The book places also emphasis on some recent developments on correlated data analysis as well as on the technical details of the theory and methodology underlying the related software applications. Thus, it may also serve as a reference for those that need theoretical explanations and a deeper understanding of the theory that underlies the related analyses. The book is structured in 13 chapters. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the subject matter, including some examples of the data types treated by correlated analysis. Chapter 2 is devoted to a review of the theory of dispersion models, while Chapter 3 gives a systematic treatment for the theory of inference functions. Chapter 4 provides a general discussion on strategies for modelling correlated data, and introduces several methods to simulate correlated data that are essential in simulation studies. Chapters 5 and 6 are devoted to the marginal and vector generalised linear models, respectively, while Chapters 7 ad 8 are devoted to the mixed-effects models, another class of models for the analysis of correlated data, focusing on likelihood-based and Bayesian methods for inference, respectively. Chapter 9 is devoted to the best linear unbiased predictor, while Chapters 10, 11, and 12 discuss generalised state space models and their application to longitudinal binomial and count data. Finally, Chapter 13 is devoted to another topic that is highly relevant to the analysis of correlated data and concerns the missing data problem arising particularly from longitudinal data.
