In the present paper, the authors introduce and study 4-variable 2-parameter Bessel functions (briefly, 4V2PBF). At the beginning of the paper, the 4V2PBF are defined by mean of a generating function; this generalizes previous work by Dattoli and co-workers [see \textit{G. Dattoli} and \textit{A. Torre}, Theory and Applications of Generalized Bessel Functions, ARACNE, Rome (1996), see also Advanced special functions and applications. Proceedings of the workshop, Melfi, Italy, May 9-12, 1999. Rome: Aracne Editrice. Proc. Melfi Sch. Adv. Top. Math. Phys. 1, 49--74, 75--92 (2000; Zbl 1018.33003 and Zbl 1018.33004)], where 4-variable 1-parameter Bessel functions were introduced in the conext of a theory of generalized Bessel functions). Then the authors explore the properties of 4V2PBF and their connections with other forms of generalized Bessel function. After that, in the principal section of the paper, the authors discuss the connections of 4V2PBF with the representation theory of the three-dimensional complex Lie algebra \(\mathcal{E}_3\), which is the complexification of the Lie algebra associated with the three-dimensional Euclidean motion group. They use the results on the representation theory of \(\mathcal{E}_3\) developed in the classical monograph by \textit{W. J. Miller} [Lie theory and special functions. New York-London: Academic Press (1968; Zbl 0174.10502)]. The Lie theoretic framework is used to derive several identities and generating relations and the paper ends with some applications of these relations to various forms of generalized Bessel functions.
