The method of pivoting (of the table of coefficients expressing given vectors as linear combinations of some other given vectors) is used to derive many classical linear algebra results. These results include the matrix rank theorem (row rank \(=\) column rank), the Kronecker-Capelli theorem (exactly one of two alternatives hold: 1) \(Ax=b\) has a solution; 2) \(yA=0\), \(yb=1\) has a solution), and basic results in linear programming: Farkas theorem, duality of finitely generated cones.
