Let \(T\) be a positive closed current of degree p on an open neighborhood \(\Omega\) of 0 in \({\mathbb{C}}^ n\). For \(a\in {\mathbb{C}}^*\) let \(h_ a\) denote the homothety given by a and \(h^*_ aT\) the lifted current. If the weak limit \(\lim_{| a| \to 0}h^*_ aT\) exists it is called the tangent cone of \(T\) in 0. The authors show: Theorem: If for small \(r_ 0>0\) one of the following conditions a) or b) is satisfied then the tangent cone of T exists: \[ a)\quad \int^{r_ 0}_{0}[(\sqrt{v_ T(r)-v_ T(r/2)})/r]dr<\infty,\quad b)\quad \int^{r_ 0}_{0}[(v_ T(r)-v_ T(0))/r]dr<\infty. \] \(v_ T(r)\) denotes the projective mass of \(T\). - The authors show that condition b) is optimal in a sense. Theorem: If \(T\) is the current of an analytic subset of pure dimension \(p\) in \(\Omega\) then \[ v_ T(r)-v_ T(0)\leq Cr^{\epsilon} \] for small \(r>0\) and suitable numbers \(C,\epsilon >0\). - A conclusion of these theorems is a result of Thie and King on the existence of a tangent cone for a current induced by an analytic set.
