The author studies the linear wave equation in the non-cylindrical space- time domain which is obtained if a subset \({\bar \Omega}{}_ 0\) of some open set \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}}^ m\) moves inside \(\Omega\) (such problems arise in interior acoustic modelling). The partial differential equation is complemented by mixed and non-homogeneous boundary conditions. Using techniques from general differential topology, the author shows that the problem on the non-cylindrical domain can be transformed onto a cylindrical domain. The transformed problem is shown to admit a unique solution, and it is proved that the conormal derivative of this solution is square-integrable. After that, the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the original problem is obtained.
