Three rescaled versions of an hyperbolic model of chemotaxis are considered, namely \[ \begin{align*}{ & \partial_t \rho^\varepsilon + \nabla\left( \rho^\varepsilon v^\varepsilon \right) = 0\,, \quad (x,t)\in {\Bbb T}^2\times (0,T)\,, \cr & \varepsilon^2\ \left[ \partial_t v^\varepsilon + v^\varepsilon\cdot \nabla v^\varepsilon \right] + \nabla g\left( \rho^\varepsilon \right) = \nabla c^\varepsilon - v^\varepsilon\,, \quad (x,t)\in {\Bbb T}^2\times (0,T)\,, \cr & \varepsilon^\lambda\ \partial_t c^\varepsilon = \Delta c^\varepsilon + \alpha\ \rho^\varepsilon - \beta\ c^\varepsilon\,, \quad (x,t)\in {\Bbb T}^2\times (0,T)\,, }\end{align*} \] where \({\mathbb T}^2\) is the two-dimensional torus, \(\lambda\in \{ 0 ,1 \}\), \(\alpha>0\), \(\beta\geq 0\), and \(g(\rho)=\rho^\gamma\) for some \(\gamma>0\). Under suitable assumptions on \(\left( \rho^\varepsilon , v^\varepsilon , c^\varepsilon \right)_\varepsilon\), the convergence as \(\varepsilon\to 0\) of \(\left( \rho^\varepsilon , v^\varepsilon , c^\varepsilon \right)_\varepsilon\) towards a solution of the expected diffusive limit system is shown. The proof relies on an energy estimate and the compensated compactness method. When \(\beta>0\), the assumptions required on \(\left( \rho^\varepsilon , v^\varepsilon , c^\varepsilon \right)_\varepsilon\) for the convergence proof are in particular satisfied for solutions starting from initial data which are small perturbations of constant states \((\tilde{\rho}, 0 , \alpha\tilde{\rho}/\beta)\), \(\tilde{\rho}>0\).
