Let \(D\) be a central division algebra over a field \(E\). A subfield \(K\subset D\) is called a Kummer subfield if it is a Galois extension of \(E\) with Abelian Galois group \(G\), and \(E\) contains a primitive \(n\)-th root of unity where \(n\) is the exponent of \(G\). Every Henselian valuation on \(E\) extends to \(D\), and an associated factor set of the quotient of value groups \(\Gamma_D/\Gamma_E\) with coefficients in the multiplicative group \(\overline D^\times\) of the residue division algebra is defined. Assuming the residue characteristic does not divide the degree of \(D\), the author gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Kummer subfields in \(D\) in terms of this factor set. His results extend those of \textit{P. J. Morandi} and \textit{B. A. Sethuraman} [J. Algebra 172, No. 2, 554-583 (1995; Zbl 0840.16013)], who considered division algebras of a particular type, but the techniques are different: they rely on the analysis of the graded ring associated to the filtration defined by the valuation on the division algebra.
