Let \(3\leq m\in \mathbb N\) and let \(\lambda: = 2\cos\frac{\pi}{m}\). Consider the Hecke group \(\mathfrak{G}_\lambda = \langle \tau + \lambda, -\tau^{-1}\rangle\), where \(\tau\) is a Moebius transformation in the upper half plane \(\mathbb H\) of \(\mathbb C\). The author considers a set \(\{\mathfrak{f}_0, \mathfrak{f}_i,\mathfrak{f}_\infty\}\) of functions, which are automorphic with respect to \(\mathfrak{G}_\lambda\), and are constructed from the conformal mapping of the fundamental domain \(\mathbb{F}_\lambda := \mathfrak{G}_\lambda\setminus\mathbb{H}\) of \(\mathfrak{G}_\lambda\) to \(\mathbb H\). For this set of functions, connections to Legendre functions and a class of hyperelliptic functions is exhibited. It is shown that in the case where \(\lambda\in \{1,2\}\), several well-known classical identities are preserved. Finally, a set of identities expressing \(\pi^{-1}\) in terms of the hypergeometric series are derived.
