Let \(X\) be a Calabi-Yau 3-fold and \(M\) be the moduli stack of objects in \(D^b\mathrm{Coh}(X)\). There is a determinant line bundle \(K_M\) on \(M\) such that \[ K_M|_{E}=\det(\mathrm{Ext}^{\mathrm{odd}}(E,E))/\det(\mathrm{Ext}^{\mathrm{even}}(E,E)). \] In [``Stability structures, motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants and cluster transformations'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:0811.2435}], \textit{M. Kontsevich} and \textit{Y. Soibelman} introduced the notion of orientation data on \(M\) which is a square root of \(K_M\) satisfying certain compatibilities on the stacks of distinguished triangles. Orientation data is important for defining motivic and cohomological Donaldson-Thomas theory on \(X\) [\textit{M. Kontsevich} and \textit{Y. Soibelman}, Contemp. Math. 527, 55--89 (2010; Zbl 1214.14014); \textit{C. Brav} et al., J. Singul. 11, 85--151 (2015; Zbl 1325.14057)]. In this paper, the authors prove the existence of orientation data by analysing the analogous question on gauge theoretic moduli spaces of connections on \(X\) [Adv. Math. 381, Article ID 107630, 56 p. (2021; Zbl 1460.32054)]. It is worth mentioning that if one wants the square root of \(K_M\) (without compatibility conditions), there is a simple argument using characteristic classes given by [\textit{N. Nekrasov} and \textit{A. Okounkov}, Algebr. Geom. 3, No. 3, 320--369 (2016; Zbl 1369.14069)] which follows an idea of D. Maulik.
