This paper can be viewed as a survey containing original results of the authors. Starting from the class of polynomial equations on \(\mathbb{C}\), of the form \[\dot{z} = \sum_0^m c_lz^l\ ,\ c_l\in \mathbb{C} \] the independent variable being the real ``time'' \(t\), there is considered the class of polynomial differential equations on \(H\) -- the Hamiltonian quaternions. Consideration of the algebraic structure leads in a natural way to a subclass of quaternionic differential equations with all their coefficients in the subalgebra \(\mathbb{C}\) of \(H\) -- which is the subject of paper's main part. Next there is considered the class of differential equations with real coefficients which is described in real coordinates. The analysis of the stationary points follows. The paper ends with the description of a class of quaternionic Riccati equations leading to a class of Arnold-Liouville integrable systems.
