During the nineteenth century much effort was given to develop a reduction theory for binary forms similar to that for quadratic forms. In 1917, Julia introduced a reduction theorem for binary forms with real coefficients. The authors introduce a reduction theory based on the hyperbolic center of mass different than that given by Julia. They show that the zero map via the Julia quadratic is different than the hyperbolic center of mass and give interesting formulas for computing the hyperbolic centroid.
