The authors study isomorphic embeddings of the space \(c\) of convergent sequences into certain infinite dimensional polyhedral \(L_1\)-preduals, i.e., those $L_1$-preduals \(X\) satisfying that the set \((\mbox{ext}\, B_{X^*})'\) of weak\(^*\) cluster points of the set of extreme points of the dual unit ball \(B_{X^*}\) of \(X\) is contained in \(rB_{X^*}\) for some \(0 \le r < 1\). The main result (Theorem~2.1) states that if \(X\) is an infinite dimensional \(L_1\)-predual of the type just described, then any isomorphic embedding \(T\) of \(c\) into \(X\) must satisfy \(\|T\|\|T^{-1}\| \ge (3 - r)/(1+r)\). This bound is also shown to be optimal for all \(0 < r < 1\). The main result is applied to obtain several results in other directions. Among other things, it is used to prove a stability result for polyhedrality (Corollary~3.1) and a characterization of \(L_1\)-preduals having the compact norm preserving extension property (CNEP) in the sense of Lindenstrauss. The latter result (Theorem~3.4) states that an infinite dimensional \(L_1\)-predual space has the CNEP if and only if it does not contain an isometric copy of any of the infinite dimensional supremum normed Banach spaces \(A(S)\) of affine continuous functions on a Choquet simplex~\(S\). Finally, a stability result for the weak\(^*\) fixed point property of certain \(\ell_1\)-predual hyperplanes in \(c\) (Theorem~3.10) is provided.
