Numerical experiments are performed to describe the behavior of the Duffing oscillator \[ \ddot{x}+b\dot{x}+\alpha x+\beta x^3 =a\cos(\omega t)+\varepsilon \xi(t). \] Here \(\xi(t)\) is a Gaussian random function and \(\varepsilon\) a perturbation parameter. In absence of random excitation, the Duffing system has a chaotic response with trajectories oscillating around two fixed attractors in the phase plane. The introduction of the random excitation causes random response that reduces significantly the chaotic behavior of the system. Several figures are provided to depict the response of the system graphically and the maximum Lyapunov exponent versus time.
