In [Dokl. Math. 81, No. 1, 55--57 (2010); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk, Ross. Akad. Nauk 430, No. 3, 318--320 (2010; Zbl 1217.11094)], \textit{V. P. Platonov} proposed a new approach to the torsion problem in Jacobi varieties of hyperelliptic curves over \(\mathbb{Q}\). An exposition of this approach, which is based on the calculation of units in hyperelliptic fields, is in [\textit{V. P. Platonov}, Russ. Math. Surv. 69, No. 1, 1--34 (2014); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 69, No. 1, 3--38 (2014; Zbl 1305.11096)]. In the present paper, the notion of the degree of an \(S\)-unit is introduced and a relationship between that degree and the corresponding torsion of the Jacobian of a hyperelliptic curve is established. Platonov conjectured that if \(S\) contains finite divisors, then the order of torsion \(\mathbb{Q}\)-points are, as a rule, determined by degrees by fundamental \(S\)-units, provided that the definition of these degrees is changed accordingly. The main work of this paper is the following: the authors prove the conjecture for all recently found torsion \(\mathbb{Q}\)-points of new orders, namely, of orders \(28, 36, 48\) and \(78\).
