Let \(a\in\mathbb{Z}\) and consider the hyperelliptic curve \(C_{a}:\;y^2=x^5+ax\), its Jacobian \(J_{a}=\mathcal{J}(C_{a})\) and the rank \(r_{a}\). Under certain assumptions on the algebraic number field \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[4]{-a})\), the author proves that \(r_{a}\leq \omega(2|a|)+2\), where, as usual, \(\omega(n)\) is the number of different prime divisors of \(n\). Moreover, if \(p\equiv 11, 19\pmod{32}\) then \(r_{p}=0\). This implies an interesting result which says that the set of rational points on \(C_{p}\) is \(\{(0,0),\infty\}\). Some results obtained for \(C_{a}\) are also generalized to hyperelliptic curves defined by the equation \(y^2=x(x^{n}+a)\). The paper is finished with some further conjectures which may stimulate further investigations.
