The authors answer a problem posed by \textit{Ö. Martin} and \textit{R. Sanders} [Integral Equations Oper. Theory 85, No. 2, 191--220 (2016; Zbl 1372.47011)] by showing the existence of disjoint frequently hypercyclic operators which fail to be disjoint weakly mixing and, therefore, fail to satisfy the disjoint hypercyclicity criterion. It is also shown that, if an operator \(T\) on a separable Banach space satisfies that \(T \oplus T\) is frequently hypercyclic, then the set of operators \(S\) such that \(T,S\) are disjoint frequently hypercyclic but fail to satisfy the disjoint hypercyclicity criterion is dense in the algebra of bounded linear operators for the strong operator topology. A~few questions are mentioned at the end of the article.
