\textit{W. B. Arveson} [Acta Math. 123, 141--224 (1969; Zbl 0194.15701)] introduced the notion of boundary representations for operator systems, the non-commutative counterparts of points in the Choquet boundary of a function system. Recently, \textit{A.~H. Fuller} et al. [J. Oper. Theory 79, No.~1, 139--172 (2018; Zbl 1449.46047)] introduced the notion of boundary representation for operator spaces and proved a natural analog of Arveson's conjecture. Since one can embed an operator space as a corner of an operator system, namely the Paulsen system, via an off-diagonal technique, it is natural to expect some relation between boundary representations of operator spaces and operator systems. In the present paper, the authors prove that a boundary representation for an operator space induces a boundary representation for the corresponding Paulsen system. The notions of weak boundary representation and finite representations are extended to operator spaces, and respective results discussing the relation of these with the corresponding Paulsen system are proved. A characterization of boundary representations of operator spaces in terms of rectangular operator extreme points, finite representations and a separating property of operator spaces is also given. Moreover, the notion of rectangular hyperrigidity for operator spaces is introduced and a version of \textit{Yu. A. Shashkin}'s theorem is established [Funct. Anal. Appl. 1, 170--171 (1967; Zbl 0159.18002); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 1, No.~2, 95--96 (1967)].
