The main result of the paper is the following: for every \(\varepsilon > 0\), every Banach space \(X\) with a separable dual can be isometrically embedded into a Banach space \(W\) with a shrinking basis \((w_n)\) which is \((1+\varepsilon)\)-monotone. Moreover: (i) if \(X\) has a finite-dimensional decomposition \((E_n)\) whose strong bimonotonicity projection constant is not larger than some \(\mathcal{D} \ge 1\), then \((w_n)\) has strong bimonotonicity projection constant not exceeding \((1+\varepsilon)\mathcal{D}\); and (ii) if \(X\) has an FDD \((E_n)\) which is \(\mathcal{C}\)-unconditional for some \(\mathcal{C} \ge 1\), then \((w_n)\) is \((1+\varepsilon)\mathcal{C}\)-unconditional. The proof consists of indicating the appropriate adaptations of the construction from [\textit{T.~Schlumprecht}, Adv. Math. 274, 833--880 (2015; Zbl 1386.46011)] that allow to control simultaneously the monotonicity constant of \((w_n)\) and the other parameters from statements (i) and~(ii). As an application, the author demonstrates that every Banach space \(X\) having a shrinking \(\mathcal{D}\)-unconditional basis with \(\mathcal{D}<\sqrt{6}-1\) has the weak fixed point property, that is for every weakly compact convex subset \(K \subset X\) every non-expansive mapping \(T : K \to K\) has a fixed point. This improves the constant \((\sqrt{33}-3)/2\) in the original result by \textit{P.-K. Lin} [Pac. J. Math. 116, 69--76 (1985; Zbl 0566.47038), Theorem~1].
