The authors study an interesting construction on the family of numerical semigroups. As a reminder, a numerical semigroup \(S\) is a submonoid of the natural numbers \(N\) under addition, such that the complement \(N\setminus S\) is a finite set. The construction in question is denoted by \(\delta(S):=S\setminus\beta(S)\), where \(\beta(S)=S^*\setminus(S^*+S^*)\). Here, \(S^*=S\setminus 0\). As it is easily verified that \(\delta(S)\) is again a numerical semigroup, this process can be iterated, which is denoted by \(\delta^i(S)\) in the paper. It is the hypothesis of the authors that this sequence of numerical semigroups has increasingly nice properties: Meaning that if \(\delta^i(S)\) satisfies a certain property, then so will \(\delta^{i+1}(S)\). Using this philosophy, the authors proceed to prove it under certain conditions, for specific properties: For example, in Theorem 1, they prove that for all numerical semigroups, having maximal embedding dimension is inherited by \(\delta\). In Proposition 4, they extend on this result. Especially well is studied the case of so-called supersymmetric numerical semigroups, where, among other things, they give an explicit description of \(\delta^n(S)\) and \(\beta(\delta^n(S))\).
