The paper under review discusses various estimations of the zeros, say \( \alpha_{1},\dots,\alpha_{d}\), of a polynomial \(P(x)=\sum_{k=0}^{d}a_{k}x^{k}\in \mathbb{C}[x]\) of degree \(d\geq 1\). Besides the degree, these estimations are mainly related to the Mahler measure \( M(P):=|a_{d}|\prod_{k=1}^{d}\max (1,|\alpha_{k}|)\) of \(P\). First, the authors give lower bounds for the quantity \(\min_{1\leq k\leq d}|\alpha_{k}-\omega |\), where \(\omega \) is a complex number with modulus \(1\) which is not a zero of \(P\). This allows them, in particular, to improve a result of [\textit{A. Dubickas}, Lith. Math. J. 35, No. 4, 333--342 (1995, Zbl 0860.11063)], which says that for any \(\varepsilon >0\), there is \(D(\varepsilon )\) such that if \(P\in \mathbb{Z}[x]\) is non-cyclotomic monic and irreducible, with degree \(d\geq D(\varepsilon )\), then \(\min_{1\leq k\leq d}|\alpha_{k}-1|>\exp (-(\pi /4+\varepsilon )\sqrt{d\log d\log M(P)})\). More precisely, they substitute, in the last inequality, the constant \(\pi /8\) to \(\pi /4\), whenever \(P\) satisfies \(P(x)=x^{d}P(1/x)\). Second, they show that if a monic polynomial \(P\in \mathbb{C}[x]\) has \(m\geq 1\) real zeros and satisfies \(P(-1)P(0)P(1)\neq 0\),\ then \[ M(P)\geq \left( \frac{|P(-1)P(1)|^{\frac{1}{m}}+\sqrt{ 4^{\frac{d}{m}}|P(0)|^{\frac{2}{m}}+|P(-1)P(1)|^{\frac{2}{m}}}}{2^{\frac{d}{m}}}\right)^{\frac{m}{2}}. \] This is a generalization of a theorem of [\textit{A. Schinzel}, Acta Arith. 24, 385--399 (1973, Zbl 0275.12004)], asserting that \(M(P)\geq ((1+\sqrt{5})/2)^{ \frac{d}{2}}\), when \(P\) is the minimal polynomial of a totally real algebraic integer with degree \(d\). Finally, the authors present a lower bound on the number of zeros of the polynomial \(P\in \mathbb{C}[x]\) in the disc \(\{z\in \mathbb{C}\mid |z-1|<1\}\), and a upper bound for the number of real zeros of \(P\) also allowing them to improve, under certain restrictions, a related result, due to Dubickas [loc. cit.].
