The author proves several interesting results for operators on certain Banach spaces \(X\) of holomorphic functions in several complex variables and which are reminiscent of the classical Gleason-Kahane-Zelazko theorem in the realm of Banach algebras. For instance, it is shown in Theorem 1.4 that if the polynomials are dense in \(X\), and the evaluation functionals and shift operators are continuous, then any \(\Lambda \in X^*\) satisfying \(\Lambda(e^{w\cdot z})\not=0 \) for \(w\in \mathbb C^n\) has the form \(\Lambda(f)=a f(b)\) for some \(a\in \mathbb C\setminus \{0\}\) and \(b\in D\), the domain of definition of \(f\). A more general version is also given in Theorem 1.5, where \(\Lambda\) is replaced by a bounded linear operator \(T:X\to Y\) for certain topological vector spaces \(Y\) of functions. The main emphasis is laid on \(X=H^p(\mathbb D^n)\) and \(Y=H^q(\mathbb D^m)\), \(1\leq p,q<\infty\), where it is deduced that if \(Tf\) is a cyclic vector for \(H^q(\mathbb D^n)\) whenever \(f\) is cyclic for \(H^p(\mathbb D^n)\), then \(Tf(z)=a(z) f(b(z))\) for certain functions \(a=T1\in H^q(\mathbb D^m)\) and \(b(z)= (Tz_1,\dots, Tz_n)/T1\). Here ``cyclic'' can also be replaced by ``outer function''. It is also shown that, conversely, bounded weighted composition operators from \(H^p(\mathbb D^n)\) to \(Y=H^q(\mathbb D^m)\) preserve cyclicity.
