A class \(\mathcal C\) of \(R\)-modules is said to have the dual Schroeder-Bernstein (\(DSB\))-property if for any pair \(A,\ B\in \mathcal C\), if \(B\) is an epimorphic image of \(A\) and \(A\) is an epimorphic image of \(B\) then \(A\cong B\). Let \(\mathcal C\) be a class of \(R\)-modules and consider the properties: \begin{enumerate} \item for all \(M\in\mathcal C\) and \(N\leq M,\ N\) contains a summand \(K\) of \(M\) such that \(N/K\ll M/K\); \item if \(M/N\) is isomorphic to a summand of \(M\) then \(N\) is a summand of \(M\); \item for all summands \(N\) and \(K\) of \(M\) such that \(N+K=M\), \(N\cap K\) is a summand of \(M\). \end{enumerate} A class \(\mathcal C\) is lifting if it satisfies 1., discrete if it satisfies 1. and 2. and quasi-discrete if it satisfies 1. and 3. The authors investigate the \(DSB\)-property for the classes of (quasi-)discrete and (quasi-)projective modules over a unital ring \(R\). They consider the special cases in which \(R\) is a Dedekind domain, a generalized uniserial ring, a (semi-) perfect ring and a von Neumann regular ring.
