The authors consider a class of operators \(M\) in the plane generalizing [\textit{S. Mizohata}, J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 1, 271--302 (1962; Zbl 0106.29601)], sign in the expressions being fixed to grant local solvability. Namely, the authors are interested here in finding global solutions by means of the integral operator \(T\) introduced in the local setting by [\textit{F. Trèves}, in: Differential geometry and differential equations, Proc. 1980 Beijing Sympos., Vol. 2, 861--928 (1982; Zbl 0531.35002)]. The study of \(T\) in the global framework presents relevant technical difficulties and the first part of the paper provides a careful study of the boundedness of \(T\) on Lebesgue and Hölder spaces in the plane. The authors then obtain continuity properties of the global solutions \(u\) of \(Mu = f\). Main issue of the paper is the application of these results to the equations of [\textit{I. N. Vekua}, Generalized analytic functions. Transl. ed. by Ian N. Sneddon. London: Addison-Wesley Publ. Co., Inc. (1962; Zbl 0100.07603)] extended here by replacing the Cauchy-Riemann operator by the Mizohata operator. In the final part of the paper the authors deduce continuity of the global solutions of such Vekua-type equations and of the related Riemann boundary value problem in the semi-plane.
