In [\textit{J. R. Stembridge}, Represent. Theory 7, 404--439 (2003; Zbl 1060.17001)] a classification is obtained of the pairs \((V_1,V_2)\) of finite-dimensional irreducible representations of complex simple Lie algebras such that the tensor product representation \(V_1\otimes V_2\) is multiplicity free. The author presents a simple and geometric approach that produces Stembridge classification for type \(B\) and \(D\) groups by the Kobayashi theory of visible actions on complex manifolds. All multiplicity-free tensor product representations of type \(B\) and \(D\) groups can be constructed from the elementary representations combined with visible actions. The main tool is the propagation theorem of the multiplicity-freeness property under visible actions which asserts that complicated multiplicity free theorems can be reduced to the visibility of group actions on complex manifolds and much simpler multiplicity-free results such as one-dimensional representations which can be called seeds of the multiplicity free representations. For the type A groups, the visible actions have been obtained by \textit{T. Kobayashi} [Acta Appl. Math. 81, No. 1--3, 129--146 (2004; Zbl 1050.22018)]. He constructed all multiplicity-free tensor product representations of \(U(n)\). The author obtains all the multiplicity-free tensor product representations for \(\mathrm{SO}(N)\) and its covering group \(\mathrm{Spin}(N)\) by following Kobayashi's argument for \(U(n)\). The main result is Theorem 3.2 which can be stated as Theorem 1.3 from the Introduction, in which the author asserts the following statement. Any pair \((V_1,V_2)\) of irreducible representations of \(\mathrm{Spin}(2n+1)\) with \(V_1\otimes V_2\) being multiplicity-free is obtained from the appropriate visible actions and a set of four multiplicity-free representations (presented in Proposition 1.1). Similar results hold for \(\mathrm{Spin}(2n)\).
