The paper contains an analysis of the twistor fibration \(\pi:\mathbb{CP}^5\to\mathbb{HP}^2\) with the aim of giving a new construction of the so-called Horrocks bundle [\textit{G. Horrocks}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 18, 15--27 (1978; Zbl 0388.14009)]. With this new construction the authors are also able to obtain several \(\mathrm{Spin}(7)\) structures defined over \(\mathbb{HP}^2\). After the introduction, in Sections 2 and 3, the authors review some basic and known constructions about the twistor geometry of \(\mathbb{HP}^2\) and its related geometric structures. In particular, they recall some splitting of the tangent space and of its exterior power that later will lead to the new representation of the Horrocks bundle. In the subsequent section they realize the Horrocks bundle as the kernel of a specific 3-form and describe some of its features. In the last part of the paper the authors study the spinor bundle of \(\mathbb{HP}^2\), compute several invariants and, at the very end, collect all the results in order to construct explicit families of \(\mathrm{Spin}(7)\) structures. Some open problems are listed in the very last part.
