Suppose \(M^{n+1}(K)\) is a simply connected space form with constant sectional curvature \(K \in \{-1, 0, 1\}\). In this paper, the authors deal with compact immersed oriented hypersurfaces \(\Sigma\) with free boundary in a ball in \(M^{n+1}(K)\), obtaining some geometric inequalities for such hypersurfaces. The main result of the article is the following: if \(n\geq 2\) and \(\Sigma\) has nonnegative Ricci curvature, then for \(k\in\{1,\dots,n-1\}\) we have \[ \int_{\Sigma}|H_k-\overline{H}_k|^2\leq \frac{n(n-1)}{(n-k)^2}\int_{\Sigma}|T^{0}_k|^2, \] where \(H_k\) denotes the \(k\)th mean curvature, \(\overline{H}_k=\int_{\Sigma}H_k/|\Sigma|\) and \(T^{0}_k\) is the tracefree part of the \(k\)th Newton tensor \(T_k\). Moreover, the equality is attained at spherical caps or a flat disk. Conversely, if there exists an elliptic point in the interior of \(\Sigma\), then equality in the above inequality implies that \(\Sigma\) is a spherical cap.
