With the intention of describe the topology of a given 4-manifold in a diagrammatic way, Gay and Kirby constructed a method called trisecting (See [\textit{D. T. Gay} and \textit{R. Kirby}, Geom. Topol. 20, No. 6, 3097--3132 (2016; Zbl 1372.57033)]), that correspond to a particular and useful way to decompose an appropriate \(4\)-manifold into simple pieces. In this paper, the author explains what it consists of, how to construct it and how to use a diagram associated to it, to recover some information of the manifold. To develop this idea, the author gives some important examples that show the similarity between trisections and Heegaard splittings in dimension four and three, respectively, and uses the diagram that describes a trisection to give a new proof of the Katanaga, Sacki, Teragaito and Yamada theorem for Gluck and Price twists (See [\textit{A. Katanaga} et al., Mich. Math. J. 46, No. 3, 555--571 (1999; Zbl 0966.57023)]). A Gluck twist is a \(4\)-manifold obtained by removing a regular neighbourhood of a \(4\)-sphere embedded in a given 4-manifold, and gluing it back with respect to a rotation of the sphere. On the other hand, a Price twist is obtained in a similar way, but starting with an embedded projective plane of Euler number \(\pm2\), and gluing with a self-diffeomorphism of the boundary of a regular neighbourhood. In this terminology, the author has successfully given a purely diagrammatic proof that if a \(2\)-sphere with Euler number \(0\) and an unknotted projective plane with Euler number \(\pm2\) are embedded in a \(4\)-manifold, then the corresponding Gluck and Price twists are actually diffeomorphic.
