The paper under review studies principal series representations of a \(p\)-adic covering group. Let \(G=\mathbf{G}(F)\), where \(F\) is a finite extension of \(\mathbb{Q}_p\) and \(\mathbf{G}\) is a split semisimple and simply-connected group over \(F\). Let \(\overline{G}\) be an \(n\)-fold central extension of \(G\). Given an unramified genuine character \(\chi\) of the center \(Z(\overline{T})\) of the covering torus \(\overline{T}\), there is associated a principal series representation \(I(\chi)\) of \(\overline{G}\). Assume that \(\chi\) is unitary, and let \(R_\chi\) be the associated \(R\)-group. There is a natural correspondence between \(\mathrm{Irr}(R_\chi)\) and the constituents of \(I(\chi)\). In the author's earlier work [Part I, J. Inst. Math. Jussieu (to appear)], a conjectural formula was proposed relating \(R_\chi\) and the dimension of the Whittaker space of the constituents of \(I(\chi)\). In the current paper, the formula is refined and proved for several important cases. The main result is that the refined formula holds for an elementary pair \((\overline{G}, R_\chi)\), which by definition means that \(\overline{G}^\vee\cong G^\vee\) and \(|R_\chi|\leq 2\). This result applies for several families including covers of type \(B_r\), \(C_r\), \(E_7\). Moreover, the formula is also proved for covers of type \(D_r\) when \(R_\chi\) is a Klein four group.
